The other day during the middle of a skin treatment with a client, I noticed my client was wearing a weave but seemed to have lots of interest in my natural hair. She asked me lots of questions which prompted me to ask her if she was natural too? She says yes, I only wear a weave because my hair is “un-trainable.” I paused and asked what she meant. She responded that she has many different textures all over her head and she couldn’t seem to make her hair do what she wanted it to do, so she blow-dries it and wears a wig. This is not the first time I have heard this response, but I must admit I always wonder why do some women go through the process of going natural and then return to wearing their hair straight ALL the time. This is not a judgment on those who choose to do this, but I just want to let you know as a 13 year natural hair vet you are confusing your curls! When you continue to straighten, you are continuously stripping the curl pattern, which can lead to your natural hair being “un-trainable” as my client said. Use the blow dryer occasionally if you really want to wear your beautifully textured hair for everyone to see. Check out the video to see how I blow my natural curls.
