Is it just me or is everyone thinking about going natural? I am starting to feel like it is a trend. Do you think we will see women rocking afros, braids and twist outs 5 years from now??? We will just have to wait and see. In the past, I would cringe when I heard other people say “natural hair is not for everybody,” but as natural hair starts to get more popular, I am starting to agree. If you are thinking about going natural, here are some questions I propose you consider before you do the big chop.

  • If I wake up with my hair looking like a brillo pad, am I more likely to throw on a wig or take the time to learn how to style my hair so it can go from brillo pad to beautiful?
  • Do I have the self confidence to deal with stares and negative statements others might say or NOT say?
  • How will I deal with a boyfriend or husband who prefers relaxed hair?
These are just a few questions I think you should ask yourself before going natural. There are an abundance of women who are natural, but because they have not answered how to deal with the new texture they are stuck wearing weaves or stripping their curl pattern by blow drying too frequently. At the end of the day I believe every person should do what works best for them, but if you truly want to wear your terrifically-textured hair, you may want to consider the above points.
