It is January, the time of year when gyms just have money walking in the door. And it is not bad to join a gym. I personally love the gym. But I know not everyone feels the same or they just don’t keep the same motivation in the later months of the year, as they had in January.

Think about 2012. How many times did you actually use your gym membership? Once a month? Or 4-5 times per week? If you averaged along that 1-2 times per month, think about how much money you are just giving the gym…(especially if that $30-50 just automatically hits your credit card.) Now evaluate if that money could be better spent buy adding equipment to your home gym. Each month that you would typically spend that cash, buy 1-2 pieces of equipment that you can use at home.

It is always a great idea to resolve to “lose weight” or “exercise more” in January. But you also want to be wise with your money, as well as you fitness goals. There is no rule that says that everybody must join a gym. The important thing is to get moving!!
