I’m excited to start a new blog series entitled from “The Heart of Rachel O.” I want to share some of my life’s stories and happenings with all of you. I plan to write about fighting pospartum depression, how I became a jogger and they’ll be plenty of articles for all of the MommaPreneurs out there. I hope you enjoy the first post and be sure to share what you would like me to write about.
Tomorrow is my kid’s last day of school for the summer I don’t know if I should clap or cry. I desperately want to be like the well organized Mom who has a complete calendar of activities planned along with daily schedule including education, snack time, play time, and my favorite nap time. Sorry to admit it but that’s just not me I’ve never been well organized and so I usually start the summer with good intentions and end with mixed results most days. I have three kids ages 2, 4 and 7 my two youngest play well together and can literally lose track of time as hours pass by my 8 year old is my strong willed creative and artistic child. If you are a busy Mom like me I’m sure you are thinking about how to get by this summer. Here are a few things we do every summer that help us to enjoy our time with other temper tantrums and all.
- We make a weekly trip to the library to pick up new books and to play with other kids. This is also usually a time for me to get a little break and enjoy some reading time for myself. The library also usually has a pretty cool calendar of summer activities for kids, be sure to go in and pick up a calendar.
- Our home has a swing set outside so the kids get to have play time outside every day, we also visit parks in our area quite frequently.
- This summer I want to do a better job of meeting our neighbors, there are a couple of families on our block whom we’ve never met. I am going to go over and introduce myself and take the kids to meet their new summer buddies:)
- Indoor play centers are a must, I get to do a little shopping and the kids get to meet other kids. Our favorite is at Orland Park Shopping Center.
- I am really blessed because my husband loves to cook, after work if he is not too tired he cooks on the grill for us and we enjoy family talent shows in the back yard.
- Vacation Bible School is the bomb dignity, call me crazy but my kids attend at least 5 over the summer. I check them all out first and every week they get good Christian education and this gives me a little break.
Hi Rachel!
Thanks for sharing this post. I imagine that having kids back for the summer will make blogging and doing your business a little more challenging to say that least!
I’s a goal of mine to get to know my neighbors better this summer too. I was thinking about hosting a block party sometime too!
Anyway, I have never commented on your blog, so I thought I’d give you some love on the internet.
I was also wondering… clearly you’re against black women getting relaxed hair or straightening their hair, but do you have an opinion on white women getting spiral perms? Just wondering ;-p
Claire, thanks for visiting. Spiral perms are great if you live in the 1980’s:)keep in touch. xoxo
