Summer is my favorite season, but with it comes the need for a new beauty routine. The warmer temperature tends to make my skin and hair oilier, which usually means I have to switch to lighter makeup and hair products. Over the past month or so, I’ve had the pleasure of experimenting with a few new products, so I want to share my favorites with you.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock somewhere, you should have heard of the latest beauty craze called a monthly subscription box. First of all, the monthly subscription is so fun because it’s like enrolling yourself in a regular Secret SantaJ! Each month, you pay a nominal fee and a box of new goodies is delivered to your door. I have to tell you, at first I thought this new craze was NOT for me because as a blogger, companies send me products alllllll the time. Fortunately though, some companies still sent me boxes to try out, and I must say that I have fallen in love with a few!

Beauty Essentials from We Are Onyx

For natural hair, I like Curl Kit. I was sent a box a few months ago and it included products from Naturalista Cosmetics (I’d heard so much about the Juicy Leave In Conditioner) plus a few other products from brands I’d never heard of. I really like the mix of large, well-known brands with the more independent brands because it gives you the opportunity to try something new from companies you may not have otherwise heard about. I also like the convienience of the Curl Kit box because when vacationing this summer, you can just pack your box and go; everything you need to take care of your hair is provided for you.

For beauty and skin, as well as natural hair, I really like We Are Onyx. Out of the three monthly subscription boxes discussed here, We Are Onyx had the best presentation. I just love great packaging with pretty, frilly wrapping paper; it makes you open the box and say, “All of this, for little ol’ me?!” LOL My box included a bar of soap, Shea Radiance Moisturizing Hair Milk and even a nail polish. This box had the most complete assortment of beauty products.

In the summer time, I also like to use mineral makeup. Mineral makeup is great because most contain titanium dioxide, which is a natural sun protectant for skin. Glamorous Chicks makes beautifully pigmented colors, and, get this: each mineral product has an amazing 7 ways you can use them. Unbelievable right??!!! Seven! You can use the product as an eyeshadow, lipgloss, nail polish and more. You have got to check them out.
