“I am a wife and a mother of three children, one girl and two boys. I am the lead choir director at my church; I’ve been a choir director since the 6th grade. I enjoy it to the fullest. I have been employed at NorthShore University HealthSystems for the last 16 years. For a good time I like to go skating and perform karaoke. My motto is, Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.
Marita A: How long have you been natural?
Shannon: I have been natural for one year and two months.
Marita A: What inspired you to go natural?
Shannon: This is my third attempt to go natural. I was tired of perms, spending money, and sitting in shops all day.
Marita A: Who are your YouTube or Facebook “hairspirations”?
Shannon: I don’t have any per say, but I have used YouTube for achieving certain styles.
Marita A: What was the most difficult part of transitioning to natural?
Shannon: Products, finding which products worked with my type of hair.
Marita A: How did your family, friends, spouse or significant other react to your hair’s new kinky texture?
Shannon: My husband loves it! He has dread locs. He didn’t believe I was going to go through with it this time… lol! But I proved him wrong! The rest of my family loves it.
Marita A: What’s in your makeup bag?
Shannon: I don’t have a makeup bag. I don’t really wear it. But I would love to see what I look like with makeup on!
Marita A: What is your wash day routine like?
Shannon: I wash my hair weekly, I start by finger detangling and proceed to wash and condition with Taliah Waajid products.
Marita A: How did you keep your skin naturally beautiful?
Shannon: I use Neutrogena facial products.
Marita A: Did you go through any kind of personal/spiritual transformation while going through the process of going natural?
Shannon: No, I did not experience any personal or spiritual transformation when I transitioned.
Marita A: What are some of your favorite hairstyles?
Shannon: I love the double strand twist out. It’s easy, I wash my hair twist it while its wet then let it dry over night and take them down the next day.
Marita A: What encouragement can you give to someone who may be considering going natural?
Shannon: Have patience and do or use what works for your hair.
