A little over a year ago I grew out my relaxer and let my natural hair texture grow in (I transitioned my hair; a term used in the natural hair world). In case you are wondering why I let my relaxer grow out, I did it to be chemical free and promote healthy hair. It has certainly been a long and stressful process but I am glad that I did it and I look forward to the day that I can wear my hair curly!

During this journey, I tried a lot of products to prevent hair breakage and maintain one texture of hair. You see, when you transition your hair, you can have curly, straight and wavy pieces which, can be very frustrating because you don’t know how to wear your hair. During this process, you can also experience a lot of breakage because the relaxed hair is damaged, weak and growing out. And as the curly hair grows in it is stronger and this can make the hair snap.

One of the products that helped me through my journey was the Carol’s Daughter Transitioning Kit. It is a 3-step process with a Purifying Extra Gentle Shampoo to wash the fragile hair and remove excess build-up, a Renewing Scalp Spay to help the natural curl pattern come in faster and healthier and Restoring Anti-Breakage Treatment to help with moisture and prevent breakage.

FYI…Carol’s Daughter is one of the top brands in the natural hair game and they are one of the only brands that offer a true transitioning kit with products made for this purpose not products currently in the brand thrown together in a box to say transitioning kit.

Here is the glam:

The Transitioning Kit was very mild, it stopped the itching I was experiencing and it gave moisture to my hair that my normal shampoo could not. It gave my hair life and kept it healthy! The shampoo is sulfate free but has a lot of lather. The scent smells like mint and tingles in the scalp making it feel refreshed and renewed! The product lasted for about 3 months with me washing my hair every week (not bad right???) LOL.

Here is the slam:

The products are only sold, as a kit so I always had extra Restoring Anti-Breakage Treatment left over and not enough Renewing Scalp Spray or Purifying Extra Gentle Shampoo :-(. The kit cost $40 and that is a lot to pay just to replace two 4oz products… IJS!

My overall grade for the Carol’s Daughter Transitioning Kit is 4.5 out of 5 smooches…MUAH!!! I really like the product and I love the way it felt, I just wish the products were sold separately. It would also be ideal if the shampoo and scalp spray were available in slightly larger sizes to accommodate me!  LOL. If you are interested in purchasing the Transitioning Kit, go to carolsdaughter.com, Ulta or select Sephora or Macy’s stores. Happy transitioning!!!
