Hope you had a wonderfully blessed Merry Christmas! Yesterday I was honored to kick off the Kwanzaa holiday for the second year in a row on WCIU’s You & Me In The Morning TV show.  My daughter and I woke up at 5am to make the trip downtown to Chicago for a live segment. For me Kwanzaa is not just a seasonal celebration, I truly do my very best to integrate the principles into my daily lifestyle.

I started working behind the scenes on the segment a few weeks ago.  After putting the word out via Facebook I received several recommendations for local designers. I took one look at Olivia Ogbara of Dress Maker by Olivia’s beautiful African clothing and I knew she would be a perfect fit. My next step was to find kid’s clothing, Lande Sanussi of Slice by CAke is one of my favorite vendors and after seeing the Slice by CAke models at this year’s Holiday Beauty Bazaar I didn’t hesitate to ask her to come and join the fun. Thank you to everyone at WCIU, gorgeous models Shettima and April and big hugs to everyone who helped make yesterday’s segment a success. Enjoy the behind the scenes photos and video!

Kwanzaa is a seven day celebration of African heritage, family, community and culture. I hope that you will reflect on the seven principles and look for ways to integrate them into your lifestyle. Happy New Year!
