By popular demand the “Natural Beauty of The Week” feature is coming back to Rachel O. Beauty. Apparently many of you have missed reading the stories of other women who have gone natural. Things have been so busy for me lately that it has been a challenge to keep up with blogging, but I am grateful for new writers who will help me to bring you lots of new and exciting articles. This post was originally featured in May of 2011, enjoy Madeline’s story..

If you are looking for something fun and funky to do with your natural hair, you will love this week’s Natural Beauty Feature. Madeline is a member of Chicago Natural Beauty Meetup and I am happy to have met her at our group’s last event. We were chatting on facebook and she posted this new photo of her summer color, I knew I had to feature her, this color choice and placement of color totally rocks!

How long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural for almost a year (June 25th).
What inspired you to go natural?
Well, a couple of things inspired me to go natural. While in cosmetology school, my friend kept telling me that I should do it, but I kept brushing the idea off (I loved my long, thick, straight hair). About a two years ago, I started to really think about it because I saw a lot of people starting to go natural and I REALLY liked it! So last year, around March, I decided that I would start transitioning… I was just ready to embrace the hair God intended for me to rock!
What has been the most challenging since transitioning from relaxed to natural?
The hardest part for me was the first few months. I did a big chop, so I went from a really cute, straight haircut to really, really short curly hair. Although it was a difficult adjustment, I knew that my confidence had to shine through. My confidence was going to make or break my look.
What is your skincare routine?
Ummm… well I have horrible skin! I’ve dealt with acne for YEARS so skincare has always been an issue for me! I just recently I discovered Neutrogena Deep Cleanse and Cetaphil and it works! I wash my face day and night with both and it’s kept my skin clear, smooth and soft.
Give us your top 3 natural beauty makeup tips?

1. Keep your skin clean. If your skin is right, your make-up will look so much better! It’ll be flawless!
2. Do what feels good to you! If you walk out the house feeling beautiful and confident, that’s all that matters
3. Mascara… it’s everyone’s best friend!

What do you love most about being natural?
That it’s me! This is the hair I was born with and I love it!
