Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend America’s Beauty Show at McCormick Place in Chicago Illinois. This show is extra special because you can only attend if you are a licensed beauty professional or student. I look forward to the show every year because of the many vendors, the educational classes and the phenomenal beauty performances. So much to see in such little time but I made sure to scout out all of the natural hair companies. I learned quickly that they were also excited to see a Naturalista because at Jane Carter they immediately started playing with my hair to demonstrate product. New York Stylist Thando Kafele used Curl Defining Cream to show how to do a double strand twist, these products smell great!
I also stopped by to see the ladies from Mixed Chicks. I have used their products many times and I was super excited to see what’s new. Did you know they have soap? Yes ladies they have soap!! Pineapple Coconut to be exact and it smells yummy and is super moisturizing! I love to use the leave in conditioner in the summer time. I have done numerous reviews on Mixed Chicks on my youtube channel. I hope to have a few of the soaps for give aways at the next Chicago Natural Beauty Meetup.
I was really disappointed I missed Anthony Dickey, the creator of the fabulous product Hair Rules. In doing some of my research about natural hair I read his book
Hair Rules and you can see my review of the book
here. The staff at the Hair Rules booth were extremely knowledgeable, passionate and friendly. It is not that often that I get to speak with men about how much they love natural hair. Rhadames James, a sales person with Hair Rules was great to chat with.
I hope you guys are ready for
The Makeup Show coming to Chicago June 2011. If you are a Makeup Artist or work in the beauty industry this is one show you can’t miss. It is a lot smaller than America’s Beauty Show, it is great to slow down a bit and really connect with other professionals. Crystal Wright appeared with The Makeup Show staff promoting her wonderful book also known as The Beauty Bible,
You can really see Natural Hair, or Textured Hair as the professionals like to call it, is really in the midst of a movement. This is exciting to me, I have been natural for over 13 years and to see other women come out of the weaves and relaxers is refreshing. We are no longer accepting European standards for our beauty and have finally decided to embrace the uniqueness of our heritage. This is the reason I started Chicago Natural Beauty Meetup, we are a natural hair women’s support group. We meet to educate, inspire and support others in the natural hair journey. Vantiana Price, a Senior Educator with Mizani Products, will join us at our next meetup happening on Sat April 2. 2011 at 2pm get all the details
here.
Mizani was also in attendance at ABS they have a beautiful new line of products called,
True Textures I received a sample of the Supreme Oil and I can’t wait to try it. When you register early for the next meetup you will receive a swag bag with samples from Mizani. See you there!
