By the time you read this post day one of my 21 Day Detox will be complete. My Mother’s Day gift to myself was an investment in my health by making an appointment with Wholistic Coach Tammye Matthews of Restored Inc. I first met Tammye a few months ago when I invited her to speak at the Chicago Naturalistas Night Out Whole Foods event. I was so impressed with her personal weight loss transformation and seeing that we both are advocates for holistic beauty, I knew she would be the right person to help me begin my journey.
For the past few months I’ve watched the number on my scale increase. The final straw was getting on one day and seeing my post pregnancy weight. I’ve also noticed that I had began to rely on food way too much. I reach for it out of boredom, to help celebrate any occasion and for comfort when I’m under stress. I first became curious about the detox diet when I saw the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. I watched it late last year and learned so much. If you are curious about detox I highly recommend it. Although I’ve been forewarned about sharing my decision to detox publicly (because everyone has an opinion) I hope that by making my journey social I will find support and encouragement.
My 21 Day Detox journey consists of consuming three fresh home made juices daily and I can eat as much raw foods as I would like. I can not eat any processed foods, coffee, white sugar etc. In the movie Fat Sick and Nearly Dead, Joe Cross consumes green juice for 60 days. I knew that would not be a good choice for me because I am hoping this diet will help me transition into healthier eating habits. My biggest fear is detoxing for 21 days losing weight and gaining all of the weight back. I feel that by adding some normalcy (eating and not just drinking juice), I will be able to maintain eating habits. Day one hasn’t been bad. I’ve definitely been crankier than normal and a bit lethargic, but overall I am feeling good and looking forward to this “20” 🙂 day journey. I will write a full follow up post on Tuesdays (through June 1) and will share mini updates on my Instagram and Facebook daily. Check out my before picture…..
