Guest Post by: Marita A.

Alessandra is an up and coming actress, writer, and producer, as well as the CEO and President of KindredQuest Films, Inc. You can find her on tour soon for the choreopoem “Pieces”. More recently, Alessandra’s short film, “The Testament of Karma“, was an official selection at The 2012 San Diego Black Film Festival. This actress is a Chicago native that currently resides in sunny California. I’m glad to say that this weeks’ natural beauty is a dear friend of mine and I love her new chic haircut!

Marita A: How long have you been natural?

Alessandra: Just recently and I love it! I used to wear my hair natural as a little girl; I recently decided to go back about a month ago, in April.

Marita A: What inspired you to go natural?

Alessandra: Honestly, I get bored with hairstyles rather quickly. I like to change things up for variety. It was pretty easy to do, since my relaxed hair was already short.

Marita A: What was the most difficult part of transitioning to natural?

Alessandra: Having to go to the barbershop every couple of weeks! It was more time consuming than difficult. It’s crazy, but I actually enjoy

Marita A: How did your family, friends, spouse or significant other react to your hair’s new kinky texture?

Alessandra: So far everyone loves it, except for my parents.

Marita A: Have you tried to convert any of your friends or family members into natrualistas?

Alessandra: No. I haven’t. I like to see variety; I love the fact that my friends and family all have a different look.

Marita A: What’s in your makeup bag?

Alessandra: I like to be very simple. Eyeliner, lipstick, and mascara are all I need. Sometimes I add eye shadow, depending on my mood and where I am going.

Marita A: How did you keep your skin naturally beautiful?

Alessandra: I drink plenty of water!

Marita A: Did you go through any kind of personal/spiritual transformation while going through the process of going natural?

Alessandra: I wouldn’t say that I went through a spiritual transformation; I really wanted a different look. However, the decision left me feeling refreshed.

Marita A: What are some of your favorite hairstyles?

Alessandra: I absolutely love short hairstyles! There is so much versatility with them. You can be classy, edgy, or sexy, just take your pick! A short haircut brings out the beauty in a woman’s face.

Marita A: What encouragement can you give to someone who maybe considering going natural? Alessandra: Make sure that it’s something that you want and that you maintain the style. Using the right products and keeping your hair conditioned is a must. More importantly, have fun with your hair!
