What is your profession?
I am a Nail Technician, Small Business Owner, and Makeup Artist.

When did you go natural?
I began transitioning in July 2008, and did a big chop in February of 2009

Before with Perm

What inspired you to go natural?
It is more cost effective for me, I don’t have to rely on going to the salon every two weeks to feel “put together.” I can maintain my hair myself with intermittent salon visits for trims and color.

How did you transition?
I grew my hair out from a short relaxed style, I sometimes wore it wavy, then had microbraids. I had one sew in after my big chop, but that didn’t last very long, so I just wore it in it’s natural state.

What is your favorite natural hair style?
I love the look of a twist out, and coil out’s last a good while for me.

What is your hair care maintenance routine?
I wash my hair weekly. As of late I have been using Paul Mitchell Moisture shampoo, I have also used Herbal Essence, and Aragon Shampoo. I condition with Aubry Organics Honeysuckle Rose, or the complementary Paul Mitchell Moisture conditioner. Styling can consist of organic shea butter, Shea Moisture, Curls, or Paul Mitchell Foaming Pomade. Just depends on the day.

Please share 3 natural beauty makeup tips
Well since it is summer, hydration and moisture are key to good looking skin! Invest in good skincare. And by invest I mean taking the time to assess the needs of your skin and buy products that address those needs.  Protect delicate skin daily, 365, with SPF.  When you want to feel pulled together in a short amount of time, a tinted moisturizer, mascara, blush and gloss will never steer you wrong.

What is your advice to new naturals or anyone thinking of going natural?
It is a great journey of self discovery. Embrace it and enjoy!
