One of the things I love about being a Skin Therapist is that I get to analyze skin and give my clients my professional opinion about product use and their skin care routine. The other day I was doing a skin treatment for a client and we were talking about old school skin remedies. She shared with me that she uses an egg as a mask as apart of her weekly skincare routine. She wanted to know what I thought of this routine. I had to be honest with her and tell her that I was unfamiliar with the benefits or disadvantages of using an egg as a mask. Her question was interesting so I decided to do some research, here is what I found.
- Eggs have a lot of protein, nutrients in the egg help to nourish the skin
- Using the egg white and mixing it with a little lemon is great way to clean impurities from the skin
- Egg whites help to tighten the pores and remove dead skin cells
- For an oil blotting effect, mix the egg with honey and oatmeal, this will help exfoliate and firm the skin
There is one caution to consider, because you are using a raw egg there is always the risk of salmonella. Most of my research shows it is best to use the egg white and mix with other ingredients. What’s your “old school” skin remedy?
