Every year America’s Beauty Show is one of the beauty industry’s biggest trade shows that I just can’t miss. The show houses everything a beauty professional could need under one roof including, a second event, The Face & Body Expo. Two events under one roof! How can you not attend and fall in love? The show offers everything you need to stay ahead of the game including instructional classes, the latest products and even celebrity appearances. Often times when I attend I get so caught up in shopping till I drop, that I miss out on all of the great speaker. This year I decided to switch things up and attend classes first!
I was so excited to see Joelle Lee’s name on the list of educators for the Face & Body Expo. Joelle is a fellow Dudley’s Beauty College alumni and Michelle Obama’s Esthetician. Can you say dream job? Unfortunately I did all I could to arrive early so that I could be front row center and take in everything Joelle had to say, but I arrived late and didn’t get to hear it all. 🙁 What I did learn was very inspirational. Joelle spoke on how she landed her current position in the White House and encouraged all of us to be prepared for success at all times. Joelle now has her on skincare line and travels often as a speaker and educator. I just love seeing an Esthetician go into the field and not limit themselves to the skincare room/salon, but truly give back to others by sharing what you’ve learned. This is so important and more of us need to do it.
My final class of the day was taught by the brazilian waxing queen Stephanie Laynes of Smooth Skin Supply. I started following Stephanie online a few years ago, and I love watching her YouTube videos. Her advice for Estheticians is always right on point. I’ve even purchased a few items from her online store. This was the class I just could not miss because Stephanie specializes in teaching individuals how to perform a brazilian wax in a record 7 minutes! We need to get Stephanie in the Guinness book of World Records for Estheticians! I mean can anyone beat that timing? I sure can’t!
The class was really unique because we actually watched Stephanie perform a brazilian wax LIVE! I didn’t really know what to expect, but there it was a va-jj being projected on a giant screen! The woman was completely relaxed and cool about letting Stephanie shows us how to wax from front to back. It really was a sight to behold, and after the demonstration, I told the lady next to me, “That’s a bad Sistah’ right there!” I mean that girl is a waxing pro! If Stephanie ever comes to your city do NOT miss her classes. After the class was over I went to visit with Stephanie and our mutual online friend Angela. I picked up some new wax and wax strips. Stephanie informed me that she has a very active Facebook community, you can follow her to stay up to date.
Oh I almost forgot to mention, I ran into James Vincent of The Makeup Show. He’s always so much fun to talk to and his love for makeup artistry is just endless. Save the date! The Makeup Show is coming to Chicago in June. I will be there too!
I would like to thank the Face & Body Expo staff for inviting me to attend. This show is a highlight for me and I look forward to sharing my Face & Body Expo experiences with you.
