Lisa Bonet is one of my all time favorite celebrities. I love her so much in fact I named my daughter after her and Lenny Kravitz’s daughter, Zoe.  Photographs of Lisa, sporting a new do, on the red carpet recently surfaced. I love the shaved head with the locks, talk about a signature natural look. As a makeup artist I always look for ways to improve imperfections especially when taking photos. Although I love Lisa’s over all look there are a couple of tips I want to share on how she and you can improve the appearance of your skin for photos.

1) Lisa’s skin appears to be very oily. Oily is not a bad thing in fact it has it benefits. However, when taking photos you may want to put a little powder on to absorb any shiny areas on the skin.

2) If you have a fair complexion I suggest applying a little bronzer to help give your complexion a warm even tone. Depending on what kind of lighting the photographer uses, you may appear washed out in photos if you don’t add a little color to your skin.

3) In my experience with women of color and makeup we tend to like to stay “natural” which often means wearing lip colors that practically blend into our complexions. Wearing the wrong tone does little to enhance our features. I love to take a neutral shade and mix it with a darker shade to create the perfect natural shade with a pop of color.
