I have been writing so much about skincare that I thought I would switch it up a bit and write about my first love, makeup! After all makeup is the reason I became interested in skincare. It’s wasn’t until I went to school for aesthetics that I really understood the importance of understanding how colors work. Knowing the basics of color theory and the meaning of primary colors, secondary colors and tertiary colors really helped me to become a more effective makeup artist. Primary colors are fundamental colors that cannot be obtained from a mixture. The primary colors are yellow, red and blue. Secondary colors are created by mixing equal parts of two primary colors. For example, yellow mixed with red makes orange. Red mixed with blue makes violet. Tertiary colors are formed by mixing equal amounts of secondary color and its neighboring primary color on the wheel. When you mix blue (primary) with violet (secondary) the new color is called blue-violet.

You are probably wondering how can this help me select better colors? Well, take applying eyeshadow  if you know what colors to use to you can really make your eye color stand out. For blue eyes, orange is the complementary color, orange contains yellow and red. If you want to make your eyes appear bluer use colors like gold, copper or red browns. If you are fortunate enough to have brown eyes you can wear any color, brown eyes are considered neutral. A makeup artist can help you select contrasting colors that will make your brown eyes stand out. If you study the color wheel and learn color theory it will help you create the perfect makeup look.
