I just love all of my social media friends! You guys inspire me more than you know. Recently I’ve been getting quite a few questions about skin issues and today’s post should help solve some of your skincare challenges. You can submit a question via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
1) How do I know what my skin type is?
Normal skin is well balanced and blemish free. Your skin never feels too greasy or too parched. The best way to determine your skin-type, is to blot your face with tissue or blotting paper. If there are just a few oily spots on the tissue, your skin is normal. If you have several oily spots, you have oily skin. If you notice frequent breakouts, then you have acneic skin. There is a big difference between oily skin, combination-oily skin and acneic skin. See a professional for a skin analysis to help you discover which products and what kind of regimen will work best for you.
2) What kind of makeup should I use if I have oily skin?
Having oily skin does limit your choices in makeup. You need to insure skin care ingredients do not trigger acne. When shopping for makeup, be sure makeup is non-comedogenic and oil-free. I recommend mineral makeup or lightweight liquid foundation.
3) What can I do to help with uneven complexion and breakouts?
I get on my soap box when my clients ask me this question because many of them are missing out on the enormous benefits of exfoliating. Exfoliating is the one thing you can do on a weekly basis that will help slough off dead skin cells and help to create healthy glowing skin. As skin ages, you have to add a little more to your beauty/skin arsenal to help look younger and take good care of your complexion.
4) I am over 40 and my skin feels very dry. What can I do to help moisturize?
Dry skin feels tight, flaky and sometimes blotchy. Have you ever moisturized in the morning, but your skin still feels dry? Combat dry skin by applying moisturizer immediately after showering. Pores are still open and the product can penetrate the skin more efficiently. Look for shower creams and moisturizers that contain glycerin, vitamin E or almond oil.
5) What should my daily skincare routine consist of?
Wash with a cleanser designed for your skin type twice a day. Stay away from ingredients that can burn the skin such as alcohol or witch hazel. Also, moisturize and protect the skin with SPF in the morning. Skin does its best healing at night, and I like to use a serum for its antioxidant benefits. Exfoliate and mask at least once a week. Drink plenty of water and get exercise to help rid the body of toxins. Skin is the window to the overall health of the body.
