It’s finally here: my review of Chicago’s Huetiful Salon! Since Huetiful Salon opened two months ago, I’ve received numerous requests to recommend a stylist there and to give my honest opinion of the salon.  The wait is over; here’s the 411 on my visit. Last week after my appearance on the WGN Morning News, I headed over to Bronzeville to see Nina Christmas for her to trim and style my hair.  Honestly, I have to say that I do not visit salons on a regular basis because, like so many women, I loathe sitting in the salon and waiting for hours. Seriously, I can remember days of being at a salon for as long as 8 hours in the past. I expect my stylist to respect my time, so double-booking clients is one of my pet peeves! I am happy to say that upon my arrival, I experienced zero wait time and  was immediately whisked away to Nina Christmas’ chair for a consultation. Because I am a licensed beauty professional, I will also admit that my standards for stylist evaluation are a bit higher than the average person. I want my stylist to educate me and analyze the condition of my hair before servicing me. Nina did not disappoint me at all; she immediately took a good look at my hair and gave her opinion on the health of my hair; then, we discussed my needs to determine the best treatment. I was WOWED by Nina’s attention to detail and constant sharing of information during our entire appointment. For some stylists, the education ends after the initial consultation, but Nina continued to educate me during the entire appointment.

Shortly after the consultation, we headed over to the shampoo bowl where I was really exicted to try the Huetiful products for the first time. Nina made sure I touched the products and explained their ingredients, as well as her technique for cleaning and conditioning. I was really amazed when Nina shared how to detangle hair during the shampoo! Yes you heard correctly: DURING the shampoo! Most naturalistas detangle during the conditioning process. After the shampoo, my hair was literally all combed out and ready for the conditioner and infamous Huetiful steam treatment.

Nina spoke a lot about water and absorption and about why the Huetiful steamer is a must-do to help maintain healthy hair. After being offered a cup of tea, I sat under the steamer for about 20 minutes; it was so relaxing that it almost put me to sleep. After the steam treatment, my hair was shiner and noticably hydrated– exactly what my strands need in the cold weather. Next Nina blow-dried my hair, trimmed my ends to perfection and flat ironed. This is the part where I’m usually a little (very, lol) skeptical; since I wear my hair curly all the time, my flat irons usually don’t last and can a look a little James Brownish…you know what I mean?!?  When Nina was all done, though, every strand was flat ironed, dyed and laid to the side. I mean, seriously!  My hair was laid, hunty! Get you a piece, I was giving the mirror some serious Susie-Over-the-Shoulder whip my hair action! Yeah, you know that one! Lol

Overall, I had a great experience at Hueitful, and I am so happy that they are centrally located in the city.
