Bare Minerals is a pretty popular brand because of what they are made without…they are free of parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrance and dies as well as triclosan, petrochemicals and phthalates. In other words…they are made without all the harsh ingredients that are known to be irritating to the skin or just added as unnecessary fillers and the products are 100% mineral based.

I was in Macy’s one day looking for a new shadow when the High Shine Eye Color caught my eye because of the packaging. It is an all in one applicator that is very compact and great for someone like me who travels frequently. I was so excited I tried all 12 colors on my hand. Yes, I do realize that the hands are a different tone from the eyelids but as a germ-o-phobe, this applicator is not one that I would try on my eyes. I went back and forth a few times until I narrowed down my search to 3 colors and I could not wait to get home and try them out.

Here are the positives: It was easy to apply due to the shape of the applicator. It offers a wash of color and I was able to wear it with my contacts with no irritation, as it is ophthalmologist tested. It goes on as a powder but it gives more of a velvet finish and it is reasonably priced at $12 each.

Here are the negatives: Bare Minerals states that this is a high intensity shadow with vibrant pigments, I felt like it only offered a wash of color. I would use this more as a highlighter or primer rather alone as a shadow. The applicator is not very hygienic, as you cannot wash it before you reapply every time. You will always get the natural oils from your lids on the applicator as you reapply and put it back in the tube. This is a loose shadow so it can be a little messy because of the applicator. I did not feel like I could get a lot color on applicator; I had to re-apply several times. I even tried to pour out a little on my hand and apply it with a makeup brush; it offered a little more color but nothing major. The colors also appeared darker in the store but I am sure it was because of the lighting.

My final grade for High Shine Eye Color by Bare Minerals is 2.5 out of 5 smooches…MUAH!!! This is not a product that I would purchase again. If you are interested in trying this shadow, you can purchase it at select Macy’s stores, Sephora and bareescentuals.com.
