A few weeks ago I was invited to be a part of the makeup team for History Makers. I have to be honest and say that prior to attending the event I was not familiar with History Makers and the many strides the organization has made in sharing the history of notable African Americans.   The History Makers event is a special program and fundraiser that is taped with a live audience and will air on the PBS network. This year’s honoree was Berry Gordy, in a one-on-one interview, hosted by celebrity journalist Gwen Ifill, Berry Gordy shared his journey through Motown and beyond.  The evening also featured performances by Valisia Lakae who plays Diana Ross and Brandon Dixon who plays Berry Gordy in the upcoming Motown musical. Special thank you to Leigh Jones and Delisa Lee for allowing me to be apart of this event, the entire evening was amazing and a night I will not forget. The $1,000 a plate dinner was scrumptious and because we worked back stage we were able to see great performances and assist with makeup for Janelle Monet, KEM, and Valerie Simpson just to name a few. Check out the PBS website for air date.
