Last weekend was epic! I had so much fun attending Chicago’s “Road to Essence Fest” event and auditioning as a Semi-Finalist for the “My Black Is Beautiful Brand Ambassador Search.” I have always wanted to attend Essence Fest, so to get a little sneak peak of the popular summer attraction was *in my valley girl voice* totally awesome!!! The day started with my 10am live interview with representatives from the My Black Is Beautiful team. The interview was not at all what I expected or imagined. Prior to my interview, I’d crafted the perfect questions and answers in my head, but my interview lasted all of five minutes and consisted of only two questions. My answers were from the heart and I can’t wait to see if I will be selected as a finalist. I got to see many of my social media friends at the Fest. Many of you walked up to me and said “congrats” because I had on a t-shirt that said winner!! The t-shirt was a just a fun marketing attempt at grabbing the judge’s attention. We will all have to wait and see, in the mean time here’s what happens next:
There are two more MBIB Brand Ambassador Search events planned. One for Dallas and the other in DC/Maryland. After the final event, 12 finalist will be selected and announced on the MBIB Facebook page. You will then have an opportunity to vote for your favorite between May 28th and June 6th. Finally, the six Brand Ambassadors will be selected and revealed during the BET Awards Show on June 29th. This is so exciting! Congratulations to all of the semi-finalist and good luck.
After I completed the interview, I was given VIP Blogger access to the Road to Essence Fest event. During my time at the fest, I met and interviewed Cynthia Bailey. Cynthia is one of my beauty icons, so I was super excited to sit and talk with her about her career, her role on the Real Housewives of Atlanta and we even talked marriage and family. Check out the interview below:
Finally, I enjoyed hearing live music from Kindred The Family Soul, Kem and Syleena Johnson. There was also plenty of fun activities such as the My Black Is Beautiful makeover booth, photo opps with Walmart and healthy living tips and gift bags from Colgate. If the Road to Essence Fest & MBIB Search stops in your city, I highly recommend you attend, as it will be a day you won’t forget!
