Lately I’ve been feeling like such a lazy couch potato. I’m finally admitting it to myself and to all of you: I fell off the health kick band wagon. I know what you are thinking: “It’s not a band wagon; it’s a lifestyle.” Well, I agree with you, so why does this always happen to me? I am not sure; maybe I push myself too hard and then give up when I can’t seem to keep up the pace. Perhaps I also have some unrealistic expectations in regards to weight loss and healthy eating. One thing I know for sure is that we all have a tendency to compare ourselves to others waaay more than we should. Things were off to a great start, too; I took 2 months prior to beginning a jogging routine just to get my body used to walking 30 minutes a day. I gradually added in a longer time and faster pace, finally settling into a routine of 45 minutes, 4 days a week, running 3 to 5 miles. I felt great, and had more energy and confidence. Then the unthinkable happened: I took one day off; one day turned into two and before I knew it, more than a month had passed. Enough is enough! I need my exercise time to clear my head, strengthen my body and take better care of me. I just purchased the Black Girls Workout Too video, and I’m setting a new goal of 30 minutes a day, 3 days a week. Wish me luck! How do you keep yourself motivated after you’ve missed a goal?
