So last night I was chatting with my facebook friends and a beautiful photo of Teyonnah Paris from last night’s SAG awards popped up on my screen. Teyonnah looked gorgeous with a beautiful custom natural hair due styled by Felicia Leatherwood of Loving Your Hair with Natural Care. Her makeup, outfit and everything was just flawless. Don’t you agree?? Well apparently not everyone does, a facebook friend made the comment “she looks like she needs a Dark & Lovely perm” it took everything in me NOT to comment. I was dumbfounded and so annoyed!!! People are so quick to say “it’s just hair” when in reality comments like these really showcase what the average African American woman thinks about natural hair. I could go on and on about this, please share your thoughts…
I believe Teyonnah looks stunning and her hair is gorgeous. I love natural hair especially when it looks healthy and well maintained. The styling is unique and makes a good look for women of color. Now comparing this look to the Gabby’s situation… (the long time in between relaxers look really backfired on the world stage) Teyonnah’s hair was intentional, styled, and it works. Congratulations.
I agree with you.
Hi Rachel,
Thanks for the beautiful work you’re doing and for sharing this gorgeous picture of Teyonnah. She looks radiant, beautiful and so full of life. We are do much more than the hair on our head. Three years ago, I cut off my hair and it was so traumatic for me because I had put way too much value in my hair and when it was gone, I questioned my beauty. I thank God those feelings went away. As a Nutritionist and Beauty Expert, I work with women every day to help them feel “beautifully nourished from the inside out”. I would love to share an article with your community I wrote on my Hair Transformation. Much love and beauty, Tracy
