This past weekend I had the pleasure of being a guest Blogger at the Black Women’s Expo. There were so many exciting things on the agenda, I had trouble deciding when and where to go 🙂 I have been trying to live a healthier lifestyle, so I decided to sit in on a seminar with Dr. Ian Smith. Dr. Ian Smith was at The Expo, to promote his latest book, Shred: The Revolutionary Diet. The room was packed, with standing room only! I learned so much from the seminar and enjoyed it so much that I decided to purchase the book. I plan to start the diet sometime this week. Here are Dr. Ian’s top tips from Saturday:
- Eat 25 grams of fiber per day, this helps to detox the digestive system. Some great options for fiber intake are apples, beans, oatmeal and broccoli.
- Consume five servings of fruit and veggies every day. I have always been confused by this statement; Dr. Ian clarified it for me. It’s not five servings of fruit AND five servings of veggies, its five servings of either food group per day.
- Eat whole grain bread NOT enriched, look for 100% whole grain or whole wheat, not processed.
- The best workout is 30 minutes a day of circuit training. 15 minutes on the treadmill, 15 on the elliptical and/or 15 minutes on the bike.
- African American women work out the least amongst all races?? What’s up with that? Let’s change that, join Girl Trek with me!
The seminar provided by Dr. Ian Smith was the best part of my Black Women’s Expo experience. I also did lots of shopping and of course got the 411 on all of the natural hair brands. Check out my favorite photos from the weekend.
Lande of Slice by Cake and Ankara Luv were selling handmade African clothing and accesories.
The ladies of Kimi-Cal Free had the cutest earrings and tshirt.
As I Am was the just one of the many natural hair brands at The Expo. I ran into a couple of my Twitter followers @LoveSashGems @DrMcCroy_TheDj
Design Essentials had lots of hair styling demonstrations and giveaways to promote their latest product available at Walgreens.
It was great to finally meet Nicole Townsend of Mega Growth.
It’s always a pleasure to see Chatto a Chicago Natural Beauty Guru. I love to watch her interact with her customers she is passionate, knowledgable and truly someone who inspires me. I will have a Tuesday Tutorial up soon sharing my favorites from the Chatto collection.
Hope you enjoyed the photos! Thank you to The Black Women’s Expo for inviting me.
