This past Monday, I attended the 4th Annual Beauty Bash and it was so much fun! I felt like a young, single woman with no kids, dancing the night away, coming home from the club near 12 am. I can’t remember the last time I’ve done that! The night started off with a mixing and mingling of Chicago’s elite beauty insiders. I mean, seriously, I saw people that I remember working with back in my commercial print modeling days. Shortly after chatting with old friends and colleagues, the founders of The Beauty Bash, Triphena Johnson and Fred Miller, arrive on the red carpet looking like a million bucks: Fred in a white tuxedo and Triphena in a gorgeous dress with hair styled in a pretty top knot with bangs!
The show started with a fierce dance routine which even included a few drag queens! I love how Fred and Triphena truly embrace people from all walks of life and give everyone a stage on which to shine at The Beauty Bash.
Immediately following the dancers, guests were treated to a special natural hair styling performance with poetry, sponsored by Mizani. The looks from the showcase were simply amazing. Mizani has a new hair care line they’ve created just for natural hair. I am thrilled to announce that for the next few weeks, I will be digging into the True Textures collection, testing, experimenting and sharing my experiences in a special blog series entitled, “My Mizani Curl Diaries.” The series will also include video tutorials and Thursday Twitter chats, moderated by me and Mizani educators. Be sure to check in on Thursdays for what’s new with Mizani. Here are my favorites looks from the Mizani’s segment at Beauty Bash.
The Beauty Bash ended with honoring several legends in the beauty industry. It was very inspirational to hear each honoree’s story of their triumphs and challenges while maintaining a successful career. Finally, as always, Fred and Triphena made a special point of giving back to the community by donating a portion of the proceeds to charity. This year the charitable focus was mental health, and Jordan’s Dream Transitional and Permanent Housing was the proud recipient of donations from this event, including an extra special surprise monetary gift from Sophisticate’s Black Hair! Simply put, I had a blast, learned a lot and left renewed and inspired. I can’t wait for next year!
